OCD
Understanding and treating obsessive compulsive disorders beyond the stereotypes.
Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) is widely misunderstood. It’s not about being neat or organized — it’s a condition that traps people in cycles of intrusive, distressing thoughts (obsessions) and repetitive behaviours or mental rituals (compulsions) performed to relieve the distress. OCD can be incredibly isolating because the thoughts often feel shameful, irrational, or frightening, and the compulsions can consume hours of your day.
The good news is that OCD responds well to specialized treatment. With the right approach, you can break the cycle and reclaim your time, your energy, and your peace of mind.
How we help
OCD treatment at our practice is centred on Cognitive Behavioural Therapy with a focus on Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) — the gold-standard treatment for OCD. ERP works by gradually and safely exposing you to the situations that trigger your obsessions while helping you resist the urge to perform compulsions.
Over time, this breaks the cycle by teaching your brain that the feared outcomes don’t happen and the anxiety naturally decreases on its own. We work at your pace and never push you into something you’re not ready for.
