About the Group
Life doesn't always wait for you to feel ready. When emotions run high — anger that flares before you can think, anxiety that spirals, sadness that pulls you under — it can feel like you're constantly reacting instead of choosing how to respond.
Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) was originally developed to help people who experience emotions more intensely than most. It's one of the most well-researched therapeutic approaches available, and it works by teaching practical, concrete skills you can use in the moments that matter — when you're overwhelmed, when a relationship feels strained, when the urge to shut down or lash out is strongest.
This group is structured around the four core DBT skill modules: mindfulness, distress tolerance, emotion regulation, and interpersonal effectiveness. Over six weekly sessions, you'll learn and practise these skills in a small, supportive group (maximum six participants) led by licensed clinicians. No prior therapy experience is required — just a willingness to try something new.
What You’ll Learn
In this 6-session, in-person group (max 6 participants), you'll learn practical skills to:
Use mindfulness to stay grounded in the present moment instead of reacting on autopilot
Apply distress tolerance to ride out intense emotions without making things worse.
Practice emotion regulation to understand and and manage emotional responses more effectively.
Engage interpersonal effectiveness to communicate and set boundaries while maintaining relationships with others.
This is not just information. It's hands-on skill-building you can apply right away.

Why group therapy?
DBT was designed to be learned in a group setting. That's not a coincidence — many of the skills, especially around interpersonal effectiveness and distress tolerance, are best practised with other people in the room. You get to hear how others handle similar challenges, try out new ways of communicating in a low-stakes environment, and build accountability that's hard to create on your own.
There's also something powerful about realizing you're not the only one who struggles with intense emotions. The group doesn't replace individual therapy — it complements it by giving you a space to build and rehearse the skills between sessions.

Individual DBT focuses on applying skills to your specific life situations with one-on-one support from a therapist. Group DBT focuses on learning and practising the skills together — you get peer feedback, shared accountability, and the chance to rehearse interpersonal skills in real time. Many people benefit from doing both.

Yes, and it's often recommended. The group teaches the skills, and individual sessions help you apply them to your personal challenges. If you're currently in individual therapy at our practice or elsewhere, this group can complement that work.
